CITY LIGHTS

CITY LIGHTS

Night sky is pale and red
Unromantic like the autumn fall
As city slips into deep slumber
Streets are empty like an orphaned child
City lights bloom like orchids in a steel garden,
Roads lie plain and empty with no destination
Cry of the cicadas keeps night demons wide awake,
Breeze blows along the lagoon shore
this lullaby heard miles away,
as the child sleeps in her mother’s lap,
guarded by the high seas
“queen” as she is known to the outside world
Bridges, the lifeline through which she breathes
lie unassuming,
Light houses guiding the unknown sailors
seems like an old lamp lit in the horizon
its cold and dark out here in the wet shore,
as old half broken  Chinese nets guards its centuries old secrets,
church bells calls out the odd time of the night
fishermen seen disappearing into darkness of the sea,
suddenly the moon comes out of his dark tux
hope in the darkness is human life all about.
City lights are like the orchids in the steel garden.
